Is anyone offering a Brush-head re-covering service?

or

Does anyone know what the material is that is used to cover the Performance and Balance Plus Pads is and where it might be available in the UK?

You can buy the pads with new covers separately. Any of the suppliers of the whole thing should be able to help you.

I have half a dozen Pads at home and was thinking that replacing them would set me back about £120, so I'm starting to look for a cheaper alternative.

DIY is high on the list.

All that should be needed is a Staple Gun (got that) and suitable material (I need to source that). Maybe I should operate such a Service myself @ a Tenner per head plus postage.

Like Eddie I would like a source for the material.  My Performance brush is so old that replacement pads are no longer available.

As far as I can remember, the fabric used is Cordura. There is a website that you can order it from:

http://www.cordura.com/en/fabric/index.html

I am not too sure about the prices, but I think it is worth having a look here.

When I was in Finland for the World Seniors a couple of years ago I bought such a recovered broom head from the Finnish Association - so you might try to contact somebody through their website to see what material they used and where they got it from.

The closest one to the original Performance one seems to be Cordura 1500. It's pretty much identical.

We've ordered it from here: http://www.doonerak.com/cordura-1500,us,4,Q063.cfm

You could try pvc backed woven polyester. It is commonly used as garden furniture weather covers, although the weave will be tighter and weight of the material will be less, but there may be other products made from the aforementioned that I haven't thought of that have a better weight and weave density and may make a more effective pad.

Also, make sure you put some tinfoil on the underside to reflect all that brushing effort heat back on to the ice.

I am getting way ahead of myself here, but I have recently returned from visiting a factory in China that makes curling brushes. The patents that the big names have make importing what is already being manufactured, difficult within Europe and USA/Canada, and since development is very expensive, we have very few alternatives to the current brooms and heads offered from the big players.  However, I am working with the factory on designing a new head that won't have a rigid plastic replacement pad or retaining screws, and it will (hopefully)  be cheaper to replace the pad on an ongoing basis.

Hi there, I know this thread has been sitting dormant for a while, but I thought it would be the perfect place to let curlers know about a balance plus and performance brush head re-covering service I'm providing.
I've started out of the rink a few weeks ago, and it's proved to be very appealing to the curlers.
It's priced at £10, and there's a little bit of postage to pay if you're not local to Braehead.

Here's the website http://www.recover-your-head.co.uk

Coming up to summer, when your brush normally gets stored away, is the perfect time to get it re-covered!
