Thanks Bungle

I should have known to look there - must be getting old. There I was assuming (wrongly it seems) that the official website would have a link. Wonder why they don't.

Anyway, I agree with what you say about Eve. After five games she has an average of 88%, seven percentage points ahead of her next rival. And she hasn't been pointed less than 85% in any game. Impressive.

Shotplay though for the others: Kelly is ranked 8th, Lorna and Annie both ranked 7th, to date.

All very interesting.

sure they dont mean anything, but they are good indicators as to how the team are playing.

JJK is of course just being provocative. We know, we know.

But for anyone who doesn't, at the simplest, the cumulative stats - over a series of games such as a round robin - measures how well players throw the stones they are asked to play. In other words, they are an indication of how good a shotplayer they are.

There is no other objective measure of 'how good' you are, which is why players and coaches use stats, either by doing it themselves or using those provided by the event team.

Yes, jjk, we all know that individual stats are only a part of why any individual game is won or lost, but to say 'they mean little' is nonsense. You're a knowlegeable guy, JJK, and to write something as stupid as that seems out of character. What point were you trying to make?

Or were you just wanting to get the forum going of a quiet Tuesday!

HLW,

I found them by accident via a link on the main site.

http://www.seasonofchampions.ca/2010worlds/scores_results.asp?drawList=8A5A88B0-8217-8C16-311B-5A83CB76F6C8

There was a link from the previous draw. Looks like the info is a straight lift from Bungle's link.

Dont get me wrong I like to study percentages as much as the next man. Indeed i think percentages and analysis of games is essential. It is invaluable that a coach and player can see who needs their out turn hits worked on, whose percentage drops in the 2nd half, which skips percentages fall in close games etc etc. My point is dont sit back here judging kelly or indeed any player purely on stats. Maybe the scorers are not up to the job. Maybe (as kelly said) they are "going for it" and she is being asked for "high risk-high reward" shots and she is erring on the pro side giving eve the chance to tidy up.
I am just saying dont get bogged down on them..  i have played in teams where players got more worried about percentages than anything else and as a result they started playing the wrong shots.
sorry for being stupid Roll Eyes

JJK,

Absolutely.

Note another win for Scotland over Norway this afternoon with Ms Wood shooting 93%.

Agreed JJK.

No need to apologise Grin

In Kelly's case at the Olympics we didn't need the stats to show she wasn't throwing the stone well.

Good to see this afternoon's stats which show that the whole team were curling pretty well, outshooting their opposition in three of the four positions. And usually that means that they will get the win. Which they did.

If you can't see an easy team in your section of the draw, then you're the easy team!

I was checking the Men's Worlds Website, did I read it right that David Murdoch is going to Italy as Warwick Smith's alternate?  That's like weird, does anybody think so?

Yes, CC you read it right. See here:
http://skipcottagecurling.blogspot.com/2010/03/world-championship-alternates.html

I don't think anyone here thinks it's remotely weird given that DM is a full time curler and thus is available to go. Why do you think it is? He knows all the Warwick team very well, indeed Warwick was in his team at the 2006 Olympics. And he can certainly play any position! It will be interesting though to see how he is used in Cortina.

I can understand the RCCC not reading this forum - there is so much negative comment.

Our girls (in my case young enough to be grandchildren at least) are doing wonderfully well in Canada, are looking good and sounding very positive but there are hardly any comments about them!

I've said it before but I'll change the words slightly this time - Lets hear it for                     S C O T L A N D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
