I am hoping we will get to see some of the games webcast on CBC  http://www.cbc.ca/sports/curling/broadcast/.  It should be an interesting bonspiel as the line up of teams is superb. 40,000 CAD top prize!. There is Scottish interest in the way of Team Brewster, who were twiddling their thumbs last week (or possibly wringing their hands). It is also possible/likely that the 5 stone free guard zone will be in force, and it would be great to see how teams approach this.

Pity the Europeans are in the same group.

FYI - It has already been decided that the five-rock rule will be used. The skips were polled at the last Grand Slam and they voted unanimously to try it in this event.

Also keep an eye open for the qualifying in the Million Dollar draw to the button event at the half time break.

Fancy your chances?  One rock, one shot, no sweepers - cover the pin for a Million!

I've watched a few of the games today and I couldn't see that the 5 stone rule made much difference but the way these teams play it might take a brick wall and a bulldozer to make much difference.  Anyone else watch and comment?

The final is at 6.00pm GMT today - if you have a way of getting video from Canada.  Obviously I have via a friend with Skype.

Good game to watch but I could not see how the 5 stone FGZ made any difference.  Anyone else?

Sandy - I felt the last end of the final was a great example of the experimental 5 rock rule. In the eight end Mcewen was defending a three point lead without last rock.

The rule enabled Stoughton to set up a potential three to tie the game. Mcewen was unable to touch the two corner guards until rock number six and this enabled Stoughton to get play into the house around corner guards. Normally the two corners would never have lasted beyond rock number 5.  A half shot by Mcewen on his first rock and all of a sudden he was looking at three against him. With his last rock he had to make a double take-out for the win.

A classic example of the five rock rule making it very tough to defend a lead.

Watch the end again!
