As a victim of the RCCC’s recent website provider change where my Club’s website was lost I have pondered what the uptake was on the format offered by the new provider. My own assessment of the new format was that it was no improvement on the old. I therefore had a trawl through the Club websites on the RCCC site. While I’m sure some Clubs already had sites on alternative providers prior to the recent switch, thought I would share my findings.

Of the 108 Clubs listed 65 were not on the RCCC format, 43 were. Of the 43 RCCC hosted sites 22 were active, 22 had no content. Inverness CC have lots of content but they were one of the few that had their site transferred but have been unable to access it since.

Of the 18 Provinces listed 6 were not on the RCCC format, 12 were. Of the 12 RCCC hosted sites 6 were active, 6 had no content. The three Area sites are not worth mentioning.

So only 22 Clubs and 6 Provinces have adopted the new RCCC providers format. Says a lot.

I look after the websites for 2 clubs (and now the local province too ! - how did that happen!!!)
I wrestled with the 'new RCCC site' and found it extremely difficult.  As a result I have moved both clubs onto the 'Blogspot' system.   I fear that I may have distorted your figures as both clubs do have a presence on the RCCC site, but I clearly state on each home page that the RCCC site will NOT be updated throughout the season and have posted a link to my 'blogger' sites.
I then drew the short straw and was asked to look after the Province site and unlike the club sites I felt that as it was the RCCC PROVINCE, that it should only be on the RCCC site.  As a result, I have had to learn to use the Wordpress site.  I maintain the site but I still HATE it and everything takes me twice as long as it should.
(I was also asked to do the Area Site, but so far have managed to escape)

ooer!  Huh Huh

I've inherited the ECA website for my sins and was looking to update it out of season and switch from Joomla to Wordpress. From a technical perspective I rather admired the design of the new RCCC site and was going to borrow a few ideas.

Perhaps I'd better PM sprinter and get the skinny on what the pitfalls can be.
