I am quite happy with my connection speed but I am envious of r'b's - his electrons must be going so fast that he is super environmentally friendly and doesn't need central heating!

Thanks for this information, it will certainly help to explain to all the problems Team Mitchnet have when trying to provide us with a decent service.

One question: if I understand this correctly, one way to improve the service is to have a dedicated connection from rink to exchange? At least the local network congestion will be eliminated!

Ideally yes. But it at present most unaffordable.

This year the government set a target of 2Mbs connections to every home.  In Finland , a 1Mbs connection becomes a legal right this year for its people with it increasing 100Mbs by 2015. I think the UK's target is pretty tame and does not really challenge the internet service providers. In Asia ,they are cabling 1,000 Mbit into homes.
