I was going to say something about our ladies performance, so far, but i have run out of time.
How does this happen at this level.

Aren't the coaches supposed to be clock watching?

The coaches can clock watch all they like, but they dont have an opportunity to tell players that there is an issue unless there is a timeout. It is the players job to keep on top of it.

I wouldnt be completely suprised if they had done it on purpose just to see what would happen. Not a new low by any means, they could have shaken at the end of 9th and nothing would have been mentioned of it.

I hope you are all watching SCO v ger - technology gone absolutely stupid!  The umpire would be wearing my brush by now and the ice would be blood red.

The coach cant watch the clock, if they have their head in their hands

If they had just wanted to see what would happen - they could have tried reading the rules or simply asking an umpire.
Your suggestion does not square with why, according to all reports, Eve looked surprised !

The umpire removed a SCO stone from play in a very amateurish manner and 2 ends later changed the magic handle.  The stone was clearly released before the hogline on TV and also on the big screen.  I have also had a text message froma friend who is in Moscow to confirm this.  LIB's report should be interesting.

The last time I remember a team running out of time, the game was declared a draw or it was replayed? Which was obviously wrong. It was probably worth a go, better chance the umpires messing up than stealing 3 then the extra!

They didn't really look that surprised after though.

The stone being removed was pretty bad. She could have double touched or activated the stone incorrectly though.

Thank God for the girls - hopefully a resurrection of some national pride!  Sri Bob - Lucy was playing and looking good.

Thanks Sandy.

I'm awaiting Leslie's report. Hopefully he might have a pic (or three) of Lucy. Richard Gray has a couple already on the WCF galleries.

If you are a fan of other Russian female curlers, there is a link to a YouTube video at the end of this post on George Karrys's blog. Before you go charging off there, heed gk's cautions:

Apologies to anyone who might be offended by my even pointing you in the direction of this video. Kate is a lovely girl, and this shows a bit more of her than usually one sees on the ice.

Right, off to have a cold shower.

Bob, on behalf of the Lucy Fan Club
PS Wonder if Lucy might do a glamour vid??

Coo - that must have been quite a while back.
The first time I saw this potentially happen was at the Worlds in Gavle in 2004. The Russian ladies skip cleared her back-swing with 0:02 left on the clock and for newbies like myself the main question in the beer tent was "What would have happened if ..."

The unequivocable response was "Game over"

I don't think she looked like that the last time I saw her play - I know the memory is failing but I think I would have remembered  Grin

Back to Curling!  At what point will Scotland lose it's place in the World Finals?  I've heard it hinted at but can't find it written down anywhere.

Worlds allocations are  2x Pacific, 2x Continental US, 8x Europe.

One of those Europe slots is SUI as hosts, so
top 6 (excl SUI) will be through by right,
7th (excl SUI) will play the challenge against the winner of the B division.

I believe - it's all in the back of the WCF rule book (downloadable from the WCF site)
