Well its cold outside sand will be for the next week plus - not enough time for a loch to freeze properly but a good start to the outdoor season. The big question, if we do manage to get a loch to freeze over will we be allowed to play?

seeing as the GM committee only had their 1st meeting for the year last week - what does that tell us??
whats the bets that when the minutes come out it will be piper dam, or loch leven and no place else. I would suggest that last last years complacency continues and its more of the same ....... i wopuld have thought that the summer would have been spent getting lots of venues sorted out etc etc but it seems that committee wheels grind slowly and they are no more further forward than last year.
the pond next to us has 4" of ice already - its obvious that water temps will be lower with this spell than normal which SHOULD increase the chances later on ..... so what are they doing to prepare for the best.........dont hear anything.......more of the same ........
looks like its going to be a case of "flash mob" curling and the "alternative" grand match....Outwith the bloody RCCC....hell mend them....

Let's give the new guy a chance - I am greatly encouraged by his responses and attitude so far.

Agree that we should give the new guy a chance but does he know what the Grand Match is? or another response may be you lot just had a Grand Match in October you can't expect another one already. Given the hassle with teams pulling out I am not sure the people involved with the IGM will want to take another one already.
Think we need to all send emails to the RCCC and ask what is happening re GM and if no response then a facebook page can be sent up in a few minutes and a 'flash mob' GM needs to take place.

You can take it from me, he absolutley and certainly knows what an outdoor grand match is......and knows the importance that "ordinary" curlers attach to the event. However ( there is always a however) given last years fiasco it would be nice to get a positive RCCC update on where and what they currently see as possibilities. Lead from the front and dont let the BBC do an item then have the RCCC chasing thier tails.

In searching around for any possible information i have just come across the list of the Grand Match committee members. (it may have been available for a long time but my first sight of it) I'm amazed that it has 29 members. On the well founded principle that a committee of one works best, how do they ever get anything agreed?

I don't think it will stay cold enough this week and beyond for it to happen this time. It was very cold for a very long time earlier this year, but as soon as it warmed the ice melted very quickly. At the time, there was a great deal of information flying around the internet, and a lot of discussion, before and after, on this forum. This Facebook page has 432 members but has not been updated since Spring - it might be worth, whoever set it up, to tidy it up, and get it ready, just in case. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=279076915897&v=infoThe comittee and the emergency services will be well aware that if the powers that be are seen to be failing to act in the interests of the members then a flash mob curling event will happen - the question is what would they prefer?

Thats not the point Yikkity - The present weather has brought down soil and more importantly water temperatures far quicker and lower than normal for this time of year - this means that should this cold snap continue or we get another in Dec or Jan then the water / ice will reach freezing point much quicker thus we dont need such a sustained cold snap. It also brings forward the possibility of a GM from the normal Jan/Feb slot to being very possible in Dec. And they aint going to be ready !!

Taking my own advice (never a good idea) I emailed the CEO asking if they would preempt any spurious news reports about a Grand Match by posting thier up to date thinking on the possibilities of same on the RCCC website.

A rise in temperature is NOT a marked impovement!

I know, but you try telling that to 99.9% of the population!

It takes a long time to get a large body of water down in temperature to a point that it will form thick Ice.
This is a good start.
