Lindsay Scotland and Harold Forrester have been working hard on updating David B Smith's original list of the places where curling was played in past years. They now have a new website for the interactive maps and database here:
http://www.historicalcurlingplaces.org/

Perhaps you can help with information on sites near your home? Note also the new projects with places in England, and also ice rinks that are now closed.
