Having played in the GM I do agree with Bob's blog, and next time I will not be entering but am sure will get a game as a sub if I want it.

Another reason that teams may have pulled out is the team we played against had requested a home rink draw but then got sent to a rink 80 miles away and to play at 10.30, they did have a good day out but did admit when they first saw the draw did discuss pulling out.

Having looked at the draw it did seem that the majority of teams were sent to other rinks, this does give people a chance to travel but I feel did detract from the atmosphere at times as having both team travelling came off after game had a drink and most left to travel home.  If one team had been at home rink would probably stayed longer.

lg and others.  immic it was the organisers who changed the format so that everyone played away from home - in previous IGM's you had the option to play home or away and I think that that was adhered to - this time the option was given but then changed and personally I think that that was a mistake.

If I am fit and get drawn to play, Millport had plenty of players, I hope to be able to play away in the next one - Brora, Aberdeen and Stirling aren't too bad for starters.

Big or small, any mistake in transmitting results should never happer and should be double checked with back-up before transmitting.
Despite that the idea of an indoor Grand Match is at least something to involve every Club and their bog standard (in the nicest way) curlers. Its a pity that some fail to turn up or cancel having been given due notice. would they have done that if it was the REAL GM.
The event does at least give everyone the chance to compete and socialise in possibly a diferent ice rink to their own.
Regarding the bit about the Wheel chair curlers-- if true--Surely Two wheelies could have sat with Two club curlers at another table. If they did not want to mix then something is wrong in the attitude of people to disability or the disabled to the rest of us. I hope either was not true having a disabled partner. Notice there was no confirmation of this event.

Doonrock, I agree with all that you say and just wanted to confirm that the situation with the wheelies DID happen.  I can say this with some conviction as it was a rink from my own club.  The feeling I get was that they had made that choice, for reasons known only to temselves, as there were larger tables available which would have accommodated the Wheelies and their helpers.  I can also confirm that there was no attitude towards disability coming from my club as we also had a wheelie in the team!

I did think playing everyone away  was the case looking at the draw and do agree it was a mistake.  As I have already said I will not be entering again but will play as a sub if needed when other pull out!

Some teams do enjoy a weekend away to the other end of the country but I would suggest most teams will struggle to sent a team from Aberdeen to Stranraer or Lockerbie to Inverness for 1 game, given the cost and the travel.  I know that the 5 North teams pulled out from playing at Lockerbie.

Should the Indoor Grand Match committee not have discussed this idea with clubs especially since they had already given an option of home or away, perhaps this is one of the reasons so many teams pulled out.

[/quote] I can confirm this also , to which I thought added a touch of class since you were playing against wheelies.

Thanks GMCurl.
If the Wheelies wanted / requested to sit seperately then it sound as if they are not into the ettiquette of curling. It was something I was told after my first game over 45 years ago and I have not forgotten it and its taken me round the world (at least the Northern Hemishere). What pity.

Regarding the draw surely travel should be kept to a minimum for most teams. But I've had some great nights at the Extremities of Scotland whether Inverness, LochGoil, Aberdeen or Stranraer. There was always a welcome and lots good craik-- and some curling!

There's a feedback form on the RCCC website front page.  After some of the comments on here about the IGM and the lack of Communication I think we should all fill it in, particularly the comments box!

Surprised that there are no comments after my previous post.  Are we on SCF really just an anti RCCC talking/moaning shop or do we have something/anything constructive to say about Curling?

I have since seen a replay of the 26 - 3 pumping and have come to the conclusion that not all was as bad as it seems. God bless sky sports  Wink  Smiley
