Interesting team performance pathway selections and line ups for next season.

http://royalcaledoniancurlingclub.org/rccc/index.cfm/performance/world-class-performance-programme/

In one swoop we have lost 3 lady skips from last season, 2 to other teams (in Lauren and Anna) and me (now retired). What's going to happen to ladies curling in the long run, I wonder?

I hope that some of the teams forming under the world class programme level will be able to afford both time and money to be able to compete in the Ladies. Otherwise, we are on a slippery slope...

thoughts?

Aww GH I'm gutted you have decided to retire....them skirts you used to wear always put me off when I played against you...lol  Wink
You have the tactical ability but never had the team behind you in recent years...

I'm a little surprised that Jackie Lochart got the nod ahead off Sarah Reid, I'd say they have more potential & ability to grow as player. Jackie / Karen & co are at a level where they are probably on the slide down the ladder the young girls are on the way up.

Please don't take this as an attack at Jackie & co, Good curlers & great to see them still playing...

My opinion, JM please don't delete as it may be rather controversial for you........

GH hope to see you back playing at some point.......

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

A recent controversy in the world of badminton stemmed from the fact that the ladies have been told to wear skirts or dresses in competition. My view is that this should also be compulsory in curling as it would attract a brand new audience to the game. I ain't too keen on all these lycra trackies and under armour gear. GH looked terrific in her chosen attire and woolly headband and will be missed around the country - time for the new brigade to take up the mantle, come on girls waddya say?

I well remember the days of the Gold and Silver leagues, when the teams were all having a go and one or two teams would rise to the top and so on to International competition. Now there are teams selected or assembled for the top and international cometition, while the rest are supposed to play for fun and make up the numbers. Perhaps that is why the Silver league has died and interest is fading, it is no longer the same level playing field that it was. It does cost a lot of time, commitment and money, and if the rewards are not there the teams will think again and enter different events as they wish.

GH, I too will miss the skirt and your presence, and many brilliant shots you played. Thanks for those!

I think all these squads do is alienate the other teams. We have seen it all before especially with junior teams. Keith Maclennan a prime example.  Wd to big keithy.

Totally agree Bob & Hugh, only make it more elite sport and turn the people away from sport.

As per my previous post regarding Oz and the problems they having with grassroots sport now after years of investing in elite sport.

Sorry to see you retire GH, u will be missed, hope u still playing Gormac thou?

I would go along with JM and a few other sensible posters and modify this out - it has no relevance to Curling

quite right - and these are the people who complain(wrongly) that the Royal club does not look at the Forum. Why should the Royal club  bother to look at the Forum when it conains drivel  posted  by people who would do us all a favour and send e-mails to each other rather than clutter up the site with their puerile nonsence

A good viewpoint almost ruined by your ridiculous point scoring

However i do agree with you to some extent. I don't know why anyone's so bothered about the royal club. I really don't think they will be interested  in this forum. My son has a blue blazer and we have certainly found the royal club to be a very strange clique. If your "face" fits then you will be fine.

Is anyone on this forum actually bothered about the rccc?

That is an interesting question. I have asked it of myself many times, and I always come to the same conclusion: I have to. If no-one cares about a governing body, it becomes a dictatorship. I prefer a governing body which will, hopefully, serve the principles of democracy.

Next question: does the RCCC care about its members? When I was a member, they certainly did not care much about me.

Bringing this thread back to the my original post:

HughJ, Invicta, JM, lonegunman: it's nice to read that my choice of on-ice attire was appreciated:-) I have only stopped competing in ladies curling. So, as long as my knee holds out, the skort and headband will still be on display at murrayfield in club curling and whatever else I end up playing in. If anyone wants me to join them in the mixed, mixed doubles, gormac or whatever else, I will still be keen on playing, but ladies curling is a no-no.

I think the state of our ladies game is disappointing. Long gone are the days when you had 16 teams trying to qualify, everyone had to fight tooth and nail just to qualify because there were no free tickets to the Scottish Championships plus we did well on the world stage. Times have changed with curling's inclusion in the Olympics and with Lottery funding and, having been on the receiving end of it, the level of support that you get if you are funded is great, so there are positive aspects to how the game has evolved from some points of view.

There are some very, very strong young players out there just now with huge potential to excel, but having so few teams competing now in the ladies makes me wonder about the long term future of our ladies game. Therein lies the challenge.

JM - "Next question: does the RCCC care about its members? When I was a member, they certainly did not care much about me."

Can you move to a different thread please? It's off topic from my original post.
