I haven't been able to see any live, but there are a couple of complete games "on demand". The commmentry is in Chinese.

My Chinese is a little rusty, but if you ever find yourself in China then try saying "Tsing Tao pijou Ching".

Tsing Tao (famous Chineses brand) beer please

Following a link from Bob's Blog I looked at the Continental Cup of Curling.  The video quality was fantastic.  A few more sleepless hours and pressure sores now seem to be inevitable - and enjoyable.

My sentiments too, Sandy. It's taken a while but it's great to see now what the fuss about the Continental Cup is all about. As you say, the video quality is great.

Magic to see mixed doubles being televised.

The TSN commentary team is all so different to what we're used to. Even the curling related adverts are of interest!

It seems obvious that the Canadian commentators are not very keen on Mixed Doubles. Some of their comments are beginning to annoy me - they seem to think it is a all bit of fun and do not recognise the skills required to play shots without swepers!! How can they say you need to be more precise in the 4 man game when you have two sweepers to give you a margin of error when you throw your stone off the brush!!!

It's good to know you guys are able to watch this event.

For some background - the commentary team is the best in Canada on curling. Russ Howard needs no introduction, Linda Moore is an  ex-World and Olympic champion and it was Linda who introduced the use of a stopwatch to curling. Vic Rauter covers multiple sports for TSN - I well remember him when he began covering curling - he joined our club in Toronto to play and learn the game. He enjoyed it so much he even married a competitive curler.

However - this Mixed Doubles is quite strange to us in Canada. I can see why it just has no following or participation in Canada. It goes against many of the things we are taught from day 1 in the game - if you're in the house never ever leave to sweep, Never ever jump out of your delivery and sweep your own rock.

Anyway - makes for some interesting shot making.

Hi Stuart
I agree with jmlb on this one. The difference in our thinking on this is that we play pairs curling in Scotland quite a lot - two players, eight stones aside. It's just part of our curling heritage here, as indeed is points curling (although that's another story). There's even a Scottish Pairs Championship, separate from the relatively new Scottish Mixed Doubles Championship.

Doubles is a different game from pairs - only five stones aside, with placed stones. More complicated that pairs - a different game entirely, many would say it's better, more attractive to play. It's great fun though. If Russ and Linda had played it themselves then their commentary might be less negative towards this branch of our sport.

What makes mixed doubles special is that it is very DIFFERENT from regular four aside, or skins. Try it, you might like it!

And I have a feeling that the mixed doubles at the Winter Youth Olympics is going to be great fun, for all sorts of reasons!

The Con Cup has just given me my first view of Mixed Doubles. Certainly very watchable and good for TV.

Must say I thought the Commentators especially Linda were more critical of the CCA about not encouraging Mixed Doubles and the way the CCA chooses the team to represent their country than about the game itself. Whilst she emphasised it was popular in Europe and elsewhere. The usual Canadian attitude of why change our game or our ways when we have over 1,000,000 curlers. Luckily we have changed and developed in Scotland otherwise numbers would really decrease.
All my clubs especially C & B had pairs and Points Competitions and all were encouraged to play or attend. A most social occasion, especially if you lost out!

Anyone know how to record stuff that being streamed to your computer? I'm normally a late bedder - but don't fancy staying up to watch a game that starts at 1am - even though it could all be over by 1.20am if Ulsrud does the business in the first end!

Don't know if this will work or if it will be geo blocked but it should be worth trying.  http://www.safewaychampionship.ca/AskCommentators.cfm
