During the past few days I have wondered if Tullis Russell would still be sponsoring Scottish Curling. After searching the web I decided they probably will, but I wasn't sure. So I decided to wait. Tonight I read from Bob's Blog, this bit:

http://skipcottagecurling.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-sponsorship-for-scottish.html

Bob, I agree, oh dear. How to write your own epitaph. No offence to the Co-op, or their funeral care (which successfully and affordably ensured that mother-in-law was well and truly served). No offense to Tullis Russell either, they sponsored a curling system that did, in fact, give them some silverware to display on their website.

RCCC, R.I.P.

P.S. Where will the Co-op display their evidence of silverware, if and when?

Sorry gals and guys
but
we have struggled for years to find sponsors and if this group are the only ones who wish to be involved let us welcome them and do not be negative.  Hopefully in the dim and distant future we will need  the service which they provide but in the meantime let us be thankful that they wish to be helpful and provide sponsorship for those of us who are left.

You are right, Sandy, but it is going to take a little getting used to. Perhaps the question should be asked why it is so difficult to find sponsors, and it is, especially since alcohol has become a choice target for tax and medical feel-good rules.Or are people simply going about it the wrong way?

Having the Co-op as sponsors is a wonderful thing. It's the funeral bit that worries me.

It makes good sense to me, given the current age range of active Curlers these days.

Does this mean that we are all going to have to wear BLACK on the ice (with or without hats), rather than the more youthful colourful image of the recent 24 months.

I believe the minimum requirement will be a black armband on the upper left arm, at least 2cm wide.

The TV adverts for Co-op Funeralcare (well south of the border at least) have all been about promoting happy events - a "have it your way" kind of approach.

Perhaps being sponsored by a funeral company will prompt the players into NOT wearing black !!

As an umpire though, we officially do have to wear black I'm afraid!  Shocked Shocked

When Co op funeral Care were announced as sponsors there were some who expressed thier doubts...they may still have doubts, but can i tell of my experience.
Since Monday, first day of the championships the local Co op funeral people have provided limo transport to and from Perth, lunch for thier guests, and reserved seating. This has enabled more than 50 local curlers, many of whom would never have attended this event, to view curling at a standard they have not seen before. Some of these guest were in thier first or second year of curling and have returned energised and enthusiastic about how to improve thier game.
A very positive outcome from everybody's point of view.
