The Royal Club website has been unavailable since last night. Word from Cairnie House is:

“Due to technical changes and circumstances outwith our control of Royal Club, the main website and all of the Area, Province and Club microsites went off line last night and we are working with providers to get it back up and running as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. If you require information as a matter of urgency please call the office and we will email information directly to you. email: office@royalcaledoniancurlingclub.org or phone 0131 333 3003.”

All the club 'microsites' are also down and are likely to remain so for 2 weeks.  The site administrators will then have to learn how to edit the new sites, which will presumably have new web addresses for our members to learn.

Once again the timing is dreadful (remember the RCCC Site being down during the last winter Olympics?) being the start of the season when people are looking for information and rely on the sites to attract new members.

DOH !!!

Sprinter,

Totally agree with your comments on timing. I’m sure much of this was out of the RCCC’s control but it has been muted for at least a year and a switch in the summer would have caused less disruption.

In fairness to Kay Adams she had previously highlighted the sites would close on 15th September until early October and has tried to keep Administrators in the loop. However, while she has probably been a victim of events, an e-mail at 1.18pm on 14th September informing people the sites were closing at 5pm that day and anything archived/not live or posted after 1st September would not be transferred to the new domain wasn’t the best.

Certainly caused me to drop everything work-wise and spend an hour cutting and pasting.

The phrase 'Having the rug pulled from under your feet' comes to mind.

RCCC badly let down by the service provider, who gave assurances that they have not backed up.

Not RCCC's fault and I think the e-mail that was sent out on the 14th was as early is it could have been given the notice they were given.....

Hmmm.  Also having some background knowledge, I see similarity to the tendering/ procurement processes for Holyrood and Edinburghs Tram systems

Sunday @ 9.30pm. Still down.

Is anyone sure that these people know what they're doing, apart, that is, from fleecing the RCCC.

Monday 9.45am.

Now get a page saying ~ "New Website coming soon"

Could this not have been done at some time in the summer and not at the point that those who have just been to our first Come & Try Day of the Season, want to find out something about the Sport and Clubs that they have just been enrolled in.

A point I tried to make to them before this hit the fan.
BTW you only get the 'new website coming soon' teaser, if you go through a search.  If you use a 'bookmarked' or 'favourite' link, you just get the Sportfocus blurb page.

NB - club 'webmasters'
you can still access the content on Sportfocus, by going to Sportfocus.com and logging in, in the normal way.  The content is still there (although not visible publicly), but for how long Huh?

New Website Coming Soon page.

I note the phone number on the above page is wrong.

Should have backed up the Loch Ness website.

Interesting, Bobs latest entry in his Blog.

My comment below is meant as no criticism of the RCCC. It refers only to the process of an outside company recreating my Restaurant's Website and changing it's home. I had assumed that that was the way that professionals did their job.

The Company that created my new website, first sent me Hard Copies of the new site ~ for agreement in principal. They then loaded the whole site, onto their own test rig/platform/site, on the web, we then tested all the links and re-proofread everything. Then they took down my old site and loaded the new one, in a matter of an hour or so. However it was a very small site and we still missed a couple of errors.

Main RCCC site appears to be up and running.

You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server.

John,

Lucky me? I'm a despondent Aberdeen fan!!!

Stumbled across the RCCC site via a related sites link on the historic curling places site flagged on Bob's Blog. http://www.historicalcurlingplaces.org/

Also my bookmark for the old Loch Ness website takes me to the same page on http://www.royalcaledoniancurlingclub.org/.
