The unemployed members of the SCIG are always looking at new opportunities, none more so than the new Stirling rink now advertising for staff. However, there is a problem -- none of us know where to find the necessary qualifications:

1.   Ice Plant Operators’ Certificate.
2.   Ice Treatment Certificate.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Why don't you ask Stirling Ice Rink - if they are asking for these certificates, maybe they know what they are.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it Stirling Ice Rink Sports Club will not be in charge of the new complex, although they might well play a role in running the new ice rink. Active Stirling is the new body, and they placed the advertisement. I have never heard of an Ice Treatment Certificate anywhere in the world, and the only Ice Plant Operators' qualification that I know of is Canadian. Perhaps they are looking for Canadian staff? As I understand it, the Canadian ice techs hate flipovers!
It is all a bit confusing to me, and I speak as a shareholder and also regard Stirling as my home rink. Not that I curl much now, so perhaps I'm out of touch.....

The matter of certification has now been clarified on the job description. The two impossibles mentioned are no longer required. Thank you, Active Stirling!

But of course, put some cash in the bank, practice what you preach, opportunity to further experiment......... plently of reasons. As they say in boxing -  " Get back in the ring ! "

After careful consideration I have decided not to apply for any of the ice positions in Stirling. The principle two reasons are that I don't think flip-over ice is a good option for the future, and that I would absolutely hate watching skaters mess up curling ice. The two don't mix so well, I'd rather stay out of it.
